GraphicDesign - Present, Your Future Self

On the final day of the graphics transition we had to reflect past experiences and include how we see our future selves in 2033. To begin with I started to brainstorm ideas that I associate with my past, present and future, I considered phrases / quotes that relate to men in some way, things that I find satisfying, and ideas based around art that has inspired me. I gained some visual ideas from some books displaying different posters and different typography’s. For the first hour before creating my posters I found it helpful to do some research using these two books, I gained ideas on how to place type and how to convey a message using subliminal messages and visual elements.
 Images of Posters, Author's Own

This first poster i created has a relief effect to it, i created this effect by raising the letters slightly using blue tac... I cut out white letters and stuck them to a white background so that the quote "less is more" was reflected through the work. The reason i decided to use this quote and display it the way i have is because i feel that it relates to the way i like things to be... I feel that this quote is the notion that simplicity and clarity are the root the good design and ideas. It demonstrates that simplicity has a greater impact on whatever you do by limiting the presentation to the bare essentials needed to convey a message or an idea... The idea behind the image bellow "simplistic" is similar to the one above. Both images are on plain white paper with a slight adjustment to the paper which creates a shadow, shadows are straightforward things and are simple enough to create with the right lighting. What i like about shadows is that they can be manipulated to resemble something completely different to its model.

This poster represents something that me and my dad have said to each other since i was small, i would say "I love you infinity"  and he would say "+1"... The idea behind the design i have used in conjunction with the quote is based on the fact that parallel lines never meet, they can go on forever and never touch. I have designed the poster so that not all of the lines are parallel, this doesn't have a meaning behind it, i just decided that continuos straight lines would be boring.

This poster relates to an artist that inspired me in 2011, it was when i researched the photographer Steve McCurry for a project. McCurry's images were among the first to show the conflict in Afghanistan , he continued to cover armed conflicts including the Lebanon Civill War and the Cambodian Civil War. His work focusses on the human consequences of war, not only showing what war impresses on the landscape, but rather, on the human face "I try to convey what it is to be like that person"
Although McCurry's work is of a melancholy nature, the images he produces are beautiful and thats where my quote "In a time of destruction be creative" comes from. I used brown parcel paper and scrunched it up to represent the time of destruction, i feel that the dull and muted tones show this well.

This next poster shows a linear drawing of an Elephant in a room, the image is still simple but the use of overlay makes it appear quite crowded. I used pink bubble writing because of elephants connotations with the colour pink and bubbles. The overlapping of the image and the text represents the idea that the elephant is impossible to overlook, and the opacity of it is that there will always be people who pretend that the elephant is not there having chosen to avoid dealing with the issue. This quote can be associated with some issues i have had to cross in my life, whereby i cannot stand it when people choose to ignore important issues.
